RICHARDSON – Several groups in Richardson are preparing for a new virtual event helping the community celebrate the upcoming holidays.

Santa’s Village on Parade: A Virtual Shoebox Parade is open to individuals, businesses and community groups, who get the opportunity to turn a shoebox into a festive parade float.

Methodist Richardson is one of this year’s entries. Their creation is inspired by Santa’s Village’s Santa’s Beary Good Hospital. The shoebox float includes bears as doctors and nurses, wearing masks and seeing patients.

The Rich-Tone Chorus is also taking part in the virtual parade. The singers who perform every year at Santa’s Village gathered over zoom recently to come up with a design that will shine bright, putting a spotlight on their talent.

Santa’s Village on Parade: A Virtual Shoebox Parade benefits the Network of Community Ministries. The nonprofit serves area families with food, clothes and rental assistance.

“During the holiday season, its such a prime time when people need the most assistance and Network is such a great organization that provides that for the Richardson community so, anyway we can provide that assistance we are very happy to be a part of it,” said Dianna Lawrence, Community Events Manager.

Registration to be part of this year’s virtual parade is now open. All people need is a shoebox and some imagination. The Parade will go live Dec. 12 at 9 a.m.
