RICHARDSON – Steel rails to be used for the Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) Silver Line project were delivered by special train from Indiana to North Texas.
This is the first set of rails to arrive and equal to about 15 miles of track. The 50 rail segments, each span about 1,600 ft. or slightly longer than 5 football fields.
Eventually, over 100 miles of rail will be brought in for the project.
“We will always make sure to keep our riders and neighbors informed about when we are closing lanes. We expect construction to begin in late September or early October,” said Gordon Shattles, external relations for DART.
Once complete the DART Silver Line will provide passenger rail connections and service from Plano to DFW Airport making stops in seven cities including Richardson. The project is expected to be finished by the end of 2022.
