Arefin Shamsul was sworn in as the new Place 6 City Council Member at Monday’s City Council meeting, after the vote totals for the June 5 runoff election were canvassed and declared official by the Council. The meeting was held at the Eisemann Center’s Bank of America Theatre.
Prior to the swearing in, remarks from outgoing Place 6 City Council Member Steve Mitchell were given as well as remarks by other Council Members recognizing him for his 30 years of service to the City, including 16 years of service on the City Council, four on the City Plan Commission and 10 on the Sign Control Board. Mitchell served as mayor during the 2007-09 term.
