After a disaster, there may be a few days where first responders aren’t able to reach you or provide disaster relief. Having an emergency kit will help you and your family take care of basic needs during a disaster and after a disaster.
An emergency kit often includes a collection of basic items you can find around the house, such as 72-hours worth of non-perishable food and water, a flashlight, a first aid kit, hygiene supplies, and pet supplies. It’s also a good idea to include a NOAA Weather Radio, local maps, and a cell phone with chargers and a backup battery.
Emergency kits may also include prescription medication, cash, copies of critical documents, and even books, games or puzzles for children.
