This weekend is the annual Emergency Preparation Supplies Sales Tax Holiday in Texas. The event drops sales taxes on purchase of certain emergency preparation supplies, including portable generators (priced less than $3,000), flashlights, portable radios, mobile phone batteries and chargers, emergency ladders, and smoke and CO detectors.
There is no limit on the number of qualifying items you can purchase, and you do not need to give an exemption certificate to claim the exemption. The tax exemption applies to in-person, online and other forms of purchase.
This year’s holiday begins at 12:01 a.m. Saturday, April 22, and ends at midnight Monday, April 24.
