Representatives from local nonprofit The Counseling Place gave an update to the City Council at Monday’s work session, providing information on the organization’s 2022 activities and goals for the future.

Now located at 375 Municipal Dr., the Counseling Place served 1,557 people in FY22, primarily through online visits, with 1,269 referred by the RPD. Their youth/first offender program, Project Positive, served 48 youth and has been so well-received by participants and parents that The Counseling Place hopes to work with RISD in the future to serve the mental health needs of students and staff.

The Counseling Place has had a partnership with the Richardson Police Department (RPD) for 45 years, providing victims’ assistance and youth offender programs, as well as support for first responders, and is funded by the City, federal grants and client fees.
