The Parks and Recreation Department is sponsoring a free, month-long challenge designed to encourage people to be active inside or out. The Virtual 50k Challenge asks participants to log 31 miles of biking, jogging, walking and/or any other kind of workout over 31 days, from April 27-May 27. Participants log actual miles covered or “movement miles”—15 minutes of physical activity counts as one mile.

There is no cost to participate and no limit to the number of people who take part. Participants may purchase a “Finisher” T-shirt online for $15, which will be distributed once the event has concluded. Organizers ask that all who choose to participate outside the home should practice current guidelines for social distancing/mask wearing.

Official mile logs will be e-mailed to everyone who signs up; register at www.cor.net/parksonline, activity #20049.

Engage with the Parks and Recreation Department and other participants via Instagram and Facebook with the event hashtag #Richardson50kChallenge.
