RICHARDSON – The Young Authors Program is turning the page on another successful chapter at the Richardson Public Library as students meet one last time for the summer.
“The kids are so wildly imaginative. I mean, they come up with ideas that are so unique, and so wonderful,” said author Nancy Churnin, who is one of the guest speakers during the two-month program.
The Young Authors Program is an annual workshop that is free and opened to students in fifth through ninth grades. This year’s participants met in person and online.
“I learned a lot of components and what to write, and where to write it and what’s good for the book, and how to really draw the reader’s attention,” said 11-year-old participant, Riya Nagaraddi.
Next week the young authors will be dropping off their final drafts to Library staff. Then, the books they have spent the summer creating will become glossy hardcover children’s books made possible by the Friends of the Library and added to the Library’s permanent collection.
“I’m kind of nervous. I don’t know how they are going to react to my book, but I hope they like it,” said 11-year-old participant, Teyen Henshaw.
