No City Council Meeting Jan. 3

Due to the upcoming holiday, there will be no City Council work session or meeting Jan. 3. The Council will next meet for a work session and regular meeting beginning at 6 p.m. Jan. 10.

DART Announces Schedule Changes for Dec. 31-Jan. 1

Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) and the Trinity Railway Express (TRE) have announced the following changes for Friday, Dec. 31 and Saturday, Jan. 1.

Discounted Memberships Offered at Rec Centers during January

To help the community keep their New Year’s fitness resolutions, Richardson recreation centers are ringing in 2022 with 22 percent off all annual recreation memberships purchased during the month of January.

Ride DART for Free on New Year’s Eve

Free transportation will be offered the night of New Year’s Eve on all DART buses, light rail and paratransit services from 6 p.m. until end of service.

Outdoor Pickleball Courts Created at Two Richardson Parks

Fans of pickleball, a hybrid of tennis, badminton and ping-pong that was dubbed “America’s fastest growing sport” this year by “The Economist,” now have more options of where to play in Richardson—select tennis courts at Woodland and Terrace parks were recently painted with pickleball lines.

Aquatics Job Fair is Jan. 5

The Parks and Recreation Department will hold a job fair from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 5 at Huffhines Recreation Center, 200 N. Plano Rd., to provide information about summer positions available at the City’s five aquatics facilities.

City Council Celebrates Diversity with 2nd Annual Student Art and Essay Contests

The Richardson City Council is again sponsoring two student contests that begin accepting entries Jan. 1: a Martin Luther King, Jr. Essay Contest and a “Black History Month: Celebrating Diversity and Inclusion” Art Contest.

90-Second Outdoor Siren Tests Begin in January

Richardson’s monthly outdoor warning siren tests will increase from 30 seconds to 90 seconds in length starting Jan. 5, with the goal of having three-minute monthly tests starting in July.

Mayor Signs It’s Time Texas Pledge

The It’s Time Texas Challenge is an annual statewide health initiative that starts Jan. 3 and runs through Feb. 27 and encourages people to be active and live a healthier lifestyle.

Santa’s Village Open for Strolling, Photos

Though Richardson Santa’s Village activities ended Dec. 19, the buildings and decorations remain in place and the lights will continue to be lit through Jan. 2. Visitors are welcome to stroll the grounds and take photographs daily from 10 a.m.-9 p.m.
