Get ready to dig into great books, fun activities and a summer full of reading as the Richardson Public Library launches its Youth Summer Reading Club and Adult Summer Reading Club. Both programs are part of this year’s “Unearth a Story” theme and give Richardson readers the chance to track their summer reading, attend Library programs and earn prizes. Registration is now open on Beanstack for both programs. You can begin tracking your reading Monday, June 1.
Children and teens can take part in summer reading while also enjoying a full schedule of Library programs, including story times, crafts, performances, magic, live birds of pray, dinosaur-themed activities and more. For a full list of events, visit the Library website at www.cor.net/Library. Children can earn a free book prize and be entered into the Grand Prize Drawing after completing 10 hours of reading. The more you read, the more prizes you are eligible to earn! Registration and additional information are available at the Youth Services Help Desk.
Adults can celebrate the start of summer reading at a kickoff event Saturday, May 30, from 2-5 p.m. at the Library, 2360 Campbell Creek Blvd., Suite 500, near the Questions Desk. Staff will help patrons register for the Adult Summer Reading Club and will offer snacks, puzzles and themed crafts, including a collaborative coloring sheet, colorable bookmarks and origami dinosaurs.
The Adult Summer Reading Club is open to adults 18 and older. Participants are challenged to read or listen to 1,200 minutes, which is about 20 minutes a day. Adults who complete the challenge may pick up a small prize bag beginning July 1, while supplies last, and will also be entered into a drawing for prizes.
