“Behold the Dreamers” by Imbolo Mbue is the book selection for the 2022 Richardson Reads One Book (RROB) program. Library staff made the announcement earlier this week at a reception at the Library. Set in New York City during the 2008 financial crisis, Mbue’s award-winning novel illuminates the immigrant experience in America through the experiences of two New York City families: an immigrant family from Cameroon and the wealthy family that employs them.

This is the 19th year for the City to have a “one book” program, a popular event in many cities that builds connections through the shared experience of large portions of the community discussing the same book. Richardson readers are encouraged to discuss the selections in their personal book clubs, join community discussions and related activities hosted by the Library, and attend a free lecture featuring the book’s author in the fall. Mbue is scheduled to appear Sept. 13 in the Richardson High School Auditorium (free tickets will be available at the Library beginning Aug. 29). Copies of the book in various formats are available for check-out at the Library.
