Closure begins final step before the Library reopens at its newly renovated location at 421 W. Arapaho Rd.
The Richardson Public Library will close at 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 11, as staff prepares to begin moving the Library’s collection, equipment, and services from its temporary location back into the renovated facility at 421 W. Arapaho Rd. The City anticipates the library will reopen later this fall with a specific grand reopening date being announced in the coming weeks.
The Library has been operating from its temporary location at 2360 Campbell Creek Blvd. while renovations have been underway at the original facility. The renovation project is part of the voter-approved 2021 Bond Program and includes improvements designed to modernize the Library to better serve the community.
“Moving back into the renovated Richardson Public Library is an exciting milestone for our community and an important step toward completing a project that will serve residents for generations to come,” said Richardson City Manager Don Magner. “I want to thank our Library staff for the exceptional work they have done to maintain service throughout the renovation. The temporary facility has served the community well during this transition, and our team’s careful planning and dedication have helped ensure residents continued to have access to the resources, programs, and support they expect from their Library.”
Moving the Library Collection
Library staff have taken steps to keep the collection organized in advance of the move to help reduce the amount of time needed to relocate materials and prepare the renovated building for public use.
Important dates and service information include:
- Sept. 11: Interlibrary Loan requests will stop being accepted.
- Oct. 2: Items currently checked out through the Interlibrary Loan program must be returned.
- Oct 5: Last day to submit a 3-D Print Job.
- Oct. 11: Last day to check out materials.
- Oct. 11: Last day to pick up items on hold.
- Oct. 11 at 6 p.m.: The Library and book drop will close.
Digital Resources Remain Available
Digital Library resources will remain available during the closure. Customers may continue to access e-books, audiobooks, reference databases, language-learning tools, and other digital materials through the myRPL Digital Library at www.cor.net/departments/public-library/digital-library. To ensure an uninterrupted process, please check your library card is current before the library closes.
Other Programming, Service, and Event Impacts
Most in-person Library programs, holds pickup, donations, notarial services, 3D printing, and other services requiring building access will be paused during the move and will resume after the renovated facility opens. Monthly book clubs and Halloween Spookilicious Program will continue as scheduled in the City Hall.
Book Drop Service to be Closed During Move
The book drop will remain closed during the move. A new book drop location will be available at the renovated facility once the Library reopens.
Material Due Dates
Due dates for materials checked out before the closure will be extended until the Library reopens.
Customer Services to Remain Open
While the Library is closed, staff will continue to be available by phone during normal Library operating hours and will respond to emails sent to AskRichardsonLibrary@cor.gov. Services that require building access, including checkout and return of physical materials, Interlibrary Loans, donations, notarial services, 3D printing and other in-person services, will be paused until the renovated facility opens.
