The Richardson Public Library has been celebrating its 60th anniversary all year along with programs and events. The celebration recently concluded with a special party and a proclamation.

“We’ve gone from card catalogs to online catalogs.  The interesting thing about librarians is that they are so use to change,” said Susan Allison, director of Library Services.

RPL started with three employees and now has 72 staff members, 214 volunteers and 43,000 registered patrons. It provides the community with 68 hours of service and 24/7 digital service.

“There are so many activities that are done here to bring people into the Library. I think that is what’s kept the community support for the Library, like it has all these years,” said former Library director, Julieanne Lovelace.

The Library gets more than 1,000 visits a day with many residents stopping by its lower level for programs, lectures and the interactive Studio RPL.
