Collin County cities including Richardson have come together to sponsor the “Spread the Hope” Collin County Peanut Butter Drive, which kicked off this week.
The Drive’s goal is to collect 100,000 pounds of peanut butter for the North Texas Food Bank (NTFB) and raise awareness of food insecurity issues in North Texas.
NTFB provides access to 190,000 meals each day for hungry children, seniors and families through a network of more than 1,000 programs and 200 partner agencies, including Richardson’s Network of Community Ministries.
Peanut butter is perpetually on NTFB’s list of most-needed foods, since it’s nutritious, kid-friendly and high in protein. However, it is not a popular donated item to the food bank due to cost.
Anyone wishing to participate may drop off plastic jars of peanut butter at any of the drop-off locations. In Richardson, drop-off boxes will be located inside the City Hall/Civic Center, 411. W. Arapaho Rd., at the east and west entrances.
Other butters such as almond, hazelnut, sunflower seed and soynut are also accepted. Glass containers are discouraged as they may break when the collection box is transported.
The Drive ends Sept. 30.
