During Monday’s City Council meeting, the Richardson City Council appointed Deputy City Manager Don Magner to the position of City Manager effective March 1, 2022. The appointment comes one week after City Manager Dan Johnson announced plans to retire effective Feb. 28, 2022.

Magner has worked for the City since 1996. Over his 25 years of service, he has worked in Human Resources, Building Inspection, Community Services and Development Services. While serving in these capacities, he was instrumental in the development of the City’s first Neighborhood Integrity and Vitality Strategy and oversaw over $10 million of neighborhood vitality capital projects. He was also instrumental in the creation of the Home Improvement Incentive Program, the Volunteer Assistance Program, and many of the City’s neighborhood engagement activities still active today. Magner moved to the City Manager’s Office in 2012, where his responsibilities have included oversight of a broad range of services such as budget and finance, communications, economic development, engineering, public health, public safety, planning, recreation, solid waste and other services.
