The North Central Texas Council of Government’s (NCTCOG) Air North Texas division has some suggestions for environmentally friendly New Year’s resolutions that can help improve air quality. Here are a few that were posted to their blog recently:

  • Keep reusable and foldable grocery bags in your vehicle, bicycle, backpack or purse. Plastic bags are the second most prevalent form of litter found in landfills, and generating plastic is harmful to our atmosphere since it is made up of chemicals such as benzene and vinyl hydrochloride.
  • Try to cook more at home and order less takeout to reduce the amount of fuel emissions typically used to deliver food. Reducing takeout also reduces the amount of plastic and Styrofoam containers used in packaging prepared foods.
  • Walk, bike or take public transportation. Earn points, discounts and prizes for doing so through NCTCOG’s free “Try Parking It” program (and earn points at the same time for your city/school district in the It’s Time Texas Community Challenge).
