This past weekend several residents gathered at the Buddha’s Light International Association headquarters in Richardson to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival, which is also known as the Moon Festival.
The Mid-Autumn Festival is a harvest festival celebrated by Chinese and Vietnamese communities. Mooncakes, a rich pastry typically filled with sweet-bean or lotus-seed paste, are traditionally eaten during the festival.
The Festival celebrates three fundamental concepts, Gathering (friends and loved ones coming together), Thanksgiving (giving thanks to the harvest), and Praying (asking for longevity and a good future).
This year, visitors not only prayed but also participated in a variety of cultural activities including a lion dance that represents joy and happiness.
“If everyone is joyful that means we have a happy year and I’m glad to see our friends at this year’s celebration. May all of them have a happy and healthy year,” said Abbess Mankuang from the Buddha’s Light International Association.
Buddha’s Light International Association is located at 1111 International Parkway in Richardson.
