The Richardson Public Library received a rare artifact this week with ties to the City’s earliest days—a 150-year-old Houston & Texas Central Railway gold bond. The bond, on loan from Richardson Historical & Genealogical Society President Dr. Steven R. Butler, is now on display in the Library’s basement reference area. Butler recently acquired the bond and is loaning it to the Library in conjunction with the City’s 2023 sesquicentennial. The bond is a meaningful part of Richardson’s history as it was issued in 1873, the year Richardson was founded; issued by the railroad that created Richardson; and bears the signature of Richardson’s namesake, A. S. (Alfred Stephen) Richardson.
