Richardson will be celebrating Fix a Leak Week March 20-26, an annual EPA WaterSense event, by distributing free toilet leak detection tablet packs at several City facilities. A toilet leak can waste more than 200 gallons of water a day and is one of the largest water wasters in a home, so Fix a Leak Week is a great time for residents to check for water leaks and drips.  Although you can usually hear a running toilet, some toilet leaks are silent, and that’s why the colored tablets in the leak detection packs help—placed in a toilet tank, leaks are indicated if colored water seeps into the toilet bowl between flushes.

From March 20-26, pick up leak detection packs at the following facilities during normal business hours:

  • Richardson Service Center, 1260 Columbia Dr.
  • Heights Recreation Center, 711 W. Arapaho Rd.
  • Huffhines Recreation Center, 200 N. Plano Rd.
  • Senior Center, 820 W. Arapaho Rd.

In addition, the North Texas Municipal Water District is co-sponsoring a free webinar Tuesday, March 21 at 6 p.m. to teach homeowners the basics on how to easily fix minor plumbing problems on their own.
