The City is seeking to increase efforts to recognize and serve veterans through a new Veterans Partnership Initiative (VPI), unveiled at Monday’s City Council meeting. A VPI web page is the first component of the Initiative to launch, providing important links to organizations that specialize in serving veterans and their families, as well as links to the City’s community partners.
Other components of the new Initiative include:
- Develop a Richardson-specific veterans oral history program
- Partner with local veterans in renovating Memorial Park
- Seek designation as a Purple Heart City
City Council members and City staff participate in a variety of Veterans Day and Memorial Day activities each year and veterans are honored at City events such as Wildflower! Arts and Music Festival.
