Richardson’s Complete Count Committee, made up of local business, education, cultural and nonprofit representatives and City department liaisons, met this week to kick off support for the 2020 Census. The committee will plan local strategies to augment national communication efforts in order to reach “hard-to-count” populations, including college students, children under the age of 5, people who face language barriers and people with mental or physical disabilities. A main message being conveyed nationally is that the 2020 Census is “easy, important and safe.” Individuals will be able to respond to the Census, for the first time, by phone, online or by mail.

The City worked with the Census Bureau over the past year to provide a local update of addresses, and Census Bureau employees walked through neighborhoods earlier this fall to check on the 35 percent of addresses not verified.

The 2020 Census will begin in January 2020.
