The U.S. Census Bureau this week pushed back the 2020 census deadline to Aug. 14 due to the widespread effects of the coronavirus. Invitations to fill out the 2020 Census questionnaire online began arriving in the mail in mid-March and include a unique 16-digit code linked to the residential address where the invitation was received. A paper version will be mailed starting the week of April 6 to all who have not yet completed the questionnaire.

Census response statistics as of April 2

  • 45.3 percent—Richardson self-response
  • 37.9 percent—Texas self-response
  • 42.8 percent—National self-response
