The City of Richardson is testing its school zone signal lights July 30 (tomorrow) and July 31 (Wednesday) as students prepare for a new school year.
The testing not only helps Traffic Operations staff know if repairs are needed, but also helps drivers get ready for the slower speeds required in school zones.
It’s also a good time to remember that using a cell phone while driving in a school zone carries up to a $200 penalty, and that not all school zones are active at the same times when school is in session. Be sure to note the times printed on school zone signs in the areas you travel, to avoid a surprise speeding ticket.
Once school begins, crossing guards employed by the City will be present at 32 key crossing points in the school zones.
School for students starts August 12 (PISD) and August 15 (RISD).
