Dependent on home address, ballot error is preventing Richardson voters from seeing uncontested City Council races for Places 1-4, though all voters can still vote uncontested Place 5 seat and contested races for Mayor and Place 6.
This morning, the City of Richardson was made aware of an error affecting ballots at early voting locations in Dallas County for the Richardson City Council election.
Ballots distributed at Dallas County polling places are incorrectly displaying City Council Places 1-4 as if they are single-member districts. As a result, voters are only seeing the race corresponding to their home address among Places 1-4, with the other three Places omitted. In reality, all City Council Places (1-6) and the Mayor are elected at-large and should appear on every Richardson voter’s ballot.
For the 2025 election, Places 1-5 are uncontested races, while Place 6 and the Mayor’s seat are contested. All Richardson voters in Dallas County are still able to vote in the Place 6 and Mayoral contests. However, due to the ballot error, voters in Places 1-4 are not being given the opportunity to cast a vote, or abstain, in the uncontested races, depending on their address.
Collin County voters are not affected by the ballot issue impacting Richardson City Council elections in Dallas County. Ballots at Collin County polling locations are displaying all races correctly.
The City has been in direct contact with the Dallas County Elections Office and has requested details regarding the process and timeline to correct the issue. County officials have confirmed they are developing a plan to implement a fix. The City has been informed a correction will not be in place before the end of the day.
The City of Richardson will provide updates as soon as additional information becomes available.
