Winners of the annual Miss Texas and Miss Texas’ Outstanding Teen Scholarship Competitions will continue to be crowned at the Charles W. Eisemann Center through at least 2026. Representatives from the City of Richardson, Miss Texas Organization, Eisemann Center and Renaissance Dallas-Richardson Hotel held a ceremonial signing of a new five-year extension last month celebrating the competition staying in Richardson, where it has been held since 2014.

On hand for the signing were Richardson Mayor Paul Voelker, Miss Texas Averie Bishop, Eisemann Center Executive Director Ally Haynes-Hamblen, Miss Texas Scholarship Organization Executive Director Jan Mitchell and Renaissance Dallas-Richardson General Manager Ben Logan.

Being the home of the Miss Texas competition serves as a catalyst for other local competitions within the Miss Texas Scholarship Organization system to hold their events at the Eisemann Center throughout the year. This, plus the chance to share everything that Richardson has to offer with the thousands of spectators who attend events during competition week, made the decision to renew the contract an easy one, said Mayor Voelker.

“This was a no brainer,” he said. “We want to have them here and we are excited that they are going to continue to be here. I couldn’t be prouder of the way this event is put on by this organization, but also the partnership they have with us and the hotel. It really is a magnificent event.”

The decision was also easy for the Miss Texas Organization, which has found everything they were looking for in the Eisemann Center and the neighboring Renaissance Hotel.

“We love having this agreement,” Mitchell said. “The Eisemann Center is fantastic. We looked at so many places when we were relocating and this is where we landed, and it has been fantastic from day one.”

For the dozens of competitors with dreams of being named Miss Texas or Miss Texas’ Outstanding Teen, having the competition at the Eisemann Center makes the event feel even more special, according to Bishop, who was crowned Miss Texas 2022 in the Eisemann Center’s Hill Performance Hall on June 25.

“It felt like I was on Broadway because the whole auditorium is incredible,” Bishop said. “I have been to theaters in New York and California. I did a lot of acting when I was in college so I have been in many theaters, and I can say, ‘10 out of 10, this performing arts center is state of the art.’ The dressing rooms, the efficiency of the lighting and the sound and the space on stage, it is so incredible, and it feels like you are center stage for an incredible, full production.”

The 2023 Miss Texas Competition Week begins June 25, with the crowning of Miss Texas and Miss Texas’ Outstanding Teen set for July 1 at the Eisemann Center. For more information, visit www.misstexas.org.
