The League of American Bicyclists has recognized Richardson with its Bronze Bicycle Friendly Community (BFC) award, joining 475 communities across the country in building better places for people to ride a bike.
“We are proud to once again receive the Bicycle Friendly Community Award. The City Council has made becoming a more bicycle friendly city a priority over the past several years, with several miles of bike lanes added each year. We are happy with our continued recognition in this program and we continue to seek opportunities to grow our status as we look at new and redevelopment opportunities across the community,” said Richardson Mayor Paul Voelker.
The League of American Bicyclists’ Bicycle Friendly America program sets the standard for how communities evaluate their quality of life, sustainability and accessibility, while allowing them to benchmark progress toward marking biking better.
The five levels of the BFC award include diamond, platinum, gold, silver and bronze, plus an honorable mention category – providing a clear incentive for communities to continuously improve.
