City staff presented final totals from the 2019-20 budget at Monday’s City Council work session. The year-end financial report focused on “unaudited actual” numbers from the budget, which closed Sept. 30, across the five major operating funds. It was reviewed using comparisons with June 2020 budget estimates, a reconfiguration of estimates from fall 2019 that was necessary due to the pandemic.

Highlights from the report include:

  • The General Fund’s ending balance was up $13 million due to increased sales tax revenue and funds received from the Dallas County and Collin County CARES programs, which provided $7.2 million for public safety, IT, EMS and other municipal needs related to the pandemic.
  • The Golf Fund’s ending balance increased by $300,000. The pandemic has caused many people to take up golf or increase their golfing—95,689 rounds of golf were played at Sherrill Park in 2019-20, or 21,112 more than in 2018-19.
