Every year the City of Richardson plants Wildflowers at various locations including at mediums and parkways for residents to enjoy.
Crews usually plant the seeds in the fall, giving the Wildflowers enough time to blossom, and right in time for the annual Wildflower Arts and Music Festival.
The Wildflower is native to North Texas and Richardson.
“We have a special mix that we use that is comprise corn flower and corn poppy. We plant those actually starting in September/October. This is a tradition that goes back, many, many years,” said Shohn Rodgers, superintendent of parks.
The Wildflowers are planted on a three-year rotation so the areas where crews plant the seeds are moved every year. The flowers have bright flowers and don’t not require maintenance all year-long.
