There is a new place now open in Richardson called the Volunteer Coordination Center to help victims impacted by this week’s severe weather.

The center which is located inside the Huffhines Recreation Center connects area volunteers with residents who are in need of help rebuilding.  Sunday’s severe weather caused damage and destruction to Richardson’s southeast side leaving many families displaced and left with nothing but the shirts on their back.

“We’ve had many people come who have been hopeless and just overwhelmed, but because of the great response from the community, being able to say we’re going to help you, it’s going to be okay, you just see the weight lifted off of them,” said Cindy Shafer, CEO, Network of Community Ministries.

The Volunteer Coordination Center is located at 200 N. Plano Rd. and will operate 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. until further notice.  Please call 972-744-0900 to volunteer or to request assistance.  Visit www.cor.net/severeweather for more on the cleanup effort.
