With rain back in the forecast comes the opportunity to collect rain via a rain barrel, a great way to conserve water, capture water for use in outdoor irrigation and foundation watering and lower water bills. Rain barrel collection systems can be simple or complex, homemade or commercially purchased—click here for online do-it-yourself (DIY) directions. In addition, the Texas AgriLife Research and Extension Center, 17360 Coit Rd., will offer a DIY rain barrel class Saturday, Sept. 21 from 9-11 a.m. The cost is $50 and includes all supplies.
