We are pleased to announce that, after 4,391 loads, the City’s contracted debris hauler and collection monitoring company completed collection of all remaining storm-related vegetative debris piles this weekend. In 47 days, 261,468 cubic yards of vegetative debris was collected. Work was completed two weeks ahead of the previously announced schedule for final round collection. Effective immediately, all normal Brush and Bulky Item Collection (BABIC) operations will resume, including the collection of brown compostable yard bags.
Though every effort has been made to collect all storm-related vegetative debris piles, we encourage any resident whose pile was missed to request a BABIC pickup at this time. This is the best way to alert staff of any missed piles.
Due to requirements for FEMA reimbursement, piles were not collected if they contained non-vegetative material (example: metal, construction debris, fences), green newly-cut vegetation or items that could not be associated with the May severe weather event. To ensure reimbursement, newly cut tree limbs, brush or other vegetative material will now be collected by the City’s normal BABIC collection service. Any mixture of storm-related vegetation with normal vegetation could result in challenges when the City files for reimbursement.
The City has been alerted to any piles the contracted debris monitoring service recommends should be collected by the City’s normal BABIC service. If you still need items removed, we ask that you submit a BABIC request to expedite collection.
Residents may still see debris in some neighborhood parks. This morning, City crews began a final push to cut, clear and stack debris for collection. This final step is expected to continue through the end of August.
We want to thank the community for its patience throughout the recovery effort.
