Community Services staff gave an update to the City Council Monday regarding the City’s first year of implementing short-term rental regulations, passed by the Council in September 2022. The regulations include several requirements of short-term rentals, including a $75 annual registration fee, an emergency contact that must reside within one hour of Richardson and specific safety/neighborhood information posted within the property.
The first six months saw staff working to set up a database and identify short-term rentals within Richardson city limits; subsequent months have involved sending out registration notices and working with the Richardson municipal court in issuing citations for those not registering.
Note that Richardson cannot ban short-term rentals anywhere in the City due to current and previous legal precedent being set in cases involving other cities.
