Members from the City’s Cultural Arts Commission (CAC) held a joint meeting with the City Council Monday, presenting the biennial update on the CAC’s activities over the past two fiscal years. The CAC makes recommendations each year to the City Council regarding grants for local arts organizations, conducts workshops for the grant recipients and provides representation on public art selection committees.
Highlights of the report:
- The FY 24 City Budget included $375,000 for arts grants from the Hotel Occupancy Tax Fund (up $70,000 from FY 23); the CAC awarded grants to 24 arts organizations for annual operations and special projects.
- More than 75,000 people have attended more than 1,000 performances from the funded organizations in FY 24.
- National planning/consulting firm BerryDunn has been chosen to help lead the process for updating the City’s Cultural Arts Master Plan.
Following the joint meeting, representatives with BerryDunn outlined the timing and scope of how the Master Plan will be updated. A Discovery phase is now underway, with Engagement (community outreach), Analysis, and Visioning phases to follow, about a 12-month process in total.
