The abundance of baby animals and birds that come with spring, along with spring storms, means a higher incidence of finding injured wildlife and birds in our backyards. DFW Wildlife Coalition, one of the area organizations that has partnered with the Richardson Animal Shelter in rescue efforts, has several guidelines on its website if you find a displaced or injured bird, mammal, or reptile and you need help assessing the situation.

The Richardson Animal Shelter accepts many different types of animals, including injured wildlife. (The most common animals handled include squirrels, opossums, raccoons and small birds.) If the Shelter is unable to help, they will transport the animal to a more fully equipped wildlife rehabilitation center.
