Sherrill Park Head Professional Ronny Glanton has been inducted into the Texas Golf Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony took place Oct. 17 at San Antonio Country Club.
Glanton has spent his entire career at the City of Richardson’s Sherrill Park Golf Course. He served as assistant from 1981-84 and has been the head golf professional for the past 37 years. Most recently, he was named the 2022 PGA Golf Professional of the Year, the highest annual honor given to a PGA of America Professional. The honor is awarded for qualities of leadership, strong moral character and a substantial record of service to the PGA and the game of golf. Glanton is one of only five Texans to have won the award; the previous four are also enshrined in the Texas Golf Hall of Fame.
“I am extremely honored to have been inducted into the Texas Golf Hall of Fame,” Glanton said. “Looking at the names of the people who have been inducted before me is like looking at a list of the legends of the game. It is humbling to have my name listed alongside them and I would like to thank the City of Richardson for believing in me.”
Throughout his time as a PGA Member, Glanton has served the Northern Texas PGA as Secretary and Vice-President, as well as President of the Section twice. In addition, Glanton represented the North Texas PGA as an At-Large Director on the PGA of America Board from 2010-12, representing the NTPGA, STPGA and Sun Country PGA. He has served on multiple section and national committees (including Chairman of the PGA of America Tournament Committee from 2010-14) and has received numerous awards including being named NTPGA Golf Professional of the Year an unprecedented three times.
In addition to this long career as a golf professional and teacher, Glanton’s playing record includes qualifying for the PGA Professional National Championship nine times, playing in seven AT&T Byron Nelson PGA Tour events, winning six NTPGA Senior Division Major Championships and three NTPGA Team Major Championships, representing the NTPGA 16 times on its Joe Black Cup Team (fourth NTPGA all-time in individual points) and serving as Captain of the NTPGA Joe Black Cup Team three times.
Glanton is one of five golfers and one facility that make up the 2022 Hall of Fame class. Other members include PGA professional Ryan Palmer, amateur player Brad Elder and golf professional/teacher Gordon Johnson. Additionally, Barney Adams was honored with the lifetime achievement award and Houston Country Club was inducted onto the Texas Registry of Historic Golf Courses.
