The City of Richardson’s budget for the 2022-23 fiscal year will increase the Senior Homestead Tax Exemption to $105,000 from $100,000. The increase will result in a total savings of $589 per year. Residents who are 65 and older or disabled are eligible for this exemption. To receive this exemption, residents will need to contact the appraisal district in the county where they live. The budget also maintains a 26 percent discount for the seniors on their residential trash collection fee. With the discount, the charge for residential trash collection, including sales tax and the state mandated landfill fee, is $17.76. The same charge without the discount is $24. In order to qualify, residents must submit a completed application along with proof of age, such as a driver’s license, to or bring the application proof of age to the Water Customer Service Office located at 2100 E. Campbell Rd. Residents may apply for the discount the day they turn 65, and it will take effect on the next bill. More information can be found at
