The Richardson Police Department (RPD) announced this week that it has begun participating in the LexisNexis Community Crime Map, a national interactive online map that makes it easier for the community to access current data about reported crimes. Users search the map using a variety of filters to customize data including location and type of offense. Clicking on colored icons that appear on the map provides further details, and the map system also includes crimes reported in neighboring cities.

Previously, RPD provided local crime information to the community via a weekly report e-mailed to subscribers. The new map gives users the option to sign up to receive free periodic customized e-mail reports using the filters available on the map.
