RICHARDSON – Students with the Richardson Mayor’s Summer Internship Program spent part of the weekend working to help others with their service project, the Annual Backpack Bash.

Students assembled more than 3,000 snack packs at the Network of Community Ministries and at the event, and handed them out. The Bash is the last project for the interns before heading back to school.

This year, RMSIP experienced a record high number of students and area employers participating in the program. Out of 125 students who applied for the paid eight-week internship, 62 were hired at one of the 50 companies in and around Richardson.

Students applied for the internships in February. It was followed by a job fair and a work readiness training. The program ends for the year on August 5.
