Lone Finalist for Place 3 Appointment
The Richardson City Council selected Daniel Evan Burdette as the lone finalist to fill the Place 3 seat following interviews with three finalists Monday, Sept. 21. The Council is scheduled to formally consider Burdette’s appointment Monday, Sept. 28, with the oath of office to be administered following the vote.
The vacancy follows Council Member Dan Barrios’ July 13 announcement that he would resign from the City Council to pursue another elected office. Barrios’ last night with the Richardson City Council was Monday night, and, once sworn in, Burdette will serve the remainder of the unexpired Place 3 term. Under the Richardson City Charter, a single Council vacancy other than the office of mayor is filled by appointment through a majority vote of the remaining members of the City Council.
Appointment Process
The City opened an application period July 22 for qualified District 3 residents interested in serving on the City Council. Thirteen residents submitted applications by the Aug. 7 deadline, and the City Council selected eight applicants on Aug. 17 to advance to public interviews. Those interviews were conducted Aug. 24.
On Sept. 14, the Council selected Burdette, Jeffrey Alan Davis, and Jordan Raymond Noret as the three finalists. The finalists were interviewed during last night’s City Council meeting, after which Burdette was selected as the lone finalist. The process concludes Sept. 28 when the Council is scheduled to vote on the appointment and administer the oath of office.

Daniel Burdette has lived in Richardson for 25 years, including 14 years in District 3, and lives in the Cottonwood Heights neighborhood.
