RICHARDSON – Richardson Mayor’s Summer Internship Program (RMSIP) experiences a record high number of students and area employers participating in the annual program.
A total of 125 students applied for the paid eight-week internship. 62 were given the chance to work at one of the 50 companies in and around Richardson.
“It’s a long journey, but I think there is a lot to be gained and we’re getting a lot of great feedback from the students and the employers,” said Angela Shellene, Program Director at RMSIP.
Students participating in RMSIP learn how to be responsible workers. They get to improve their community skills through projects and presentations. They also learn firsthand what its like being part of a team.
The teens began applying for their internships in February. It was followed by a job fair and a work readiness training for those selected to participate.
The program ends for the year on August 5.
