RICHARDSON – They are the men and women who are ready and resilient, providing and maintaining Richardson’s infrastructure and services, collectively known as Public Works.

National Public Works Week is May 15-21.

“I think it’s important to take time to recognize these employees throughout this week and highlight their skills, and also understand they are appreciated,” said Eric Robison, Public Works Director.

Richardson’s Public Works staff are participating in several events this week including the Equipment Backhoe Rodeo, two challenges that put their skills to the test and helps build morale.

In the first challenge, participants had to use a loader to collect five tennis balls that were placed on top of traffic cones. The second challenge required team members to drop a pin inside three traffic cones. Staff members were timed and faced windy elements, similar elements they deal with while on the job.

Richardson’s Street Supervisor David Hamm won the challenge, winning a trophy and bragging rights. He’s worked with the City for nearly 23 years and has been a part of daily maintenance, disaster response and many things in-between.
