Richardson Fire Chief Curtis Poovey presented the Fire Department’s annual report at Monday’s City Council work session, a comprehensive summary of the department’s 2021 activities and accomplishments. Notable statistics highlighted in the report included:

  • The department logged 12,859 emergency responses (2,785 fire incidents and 10,074 EMS services).
  • Of the $170.7M in property involved in fire incidents, $167.3M was saved.
  • According to the national Cardiac Arrest Registry to Enhance Survival, Richardson’s cardiac arrest survival rate was higher than the state and national percentages in 2021, 37.5 percent vs. 29.3 percent and 29 percent respectively.
  • 16 new firefighters were recruited, hired and trained.

The report also included statistics regarding fire investigations, educational outreach, building inspections, staff health and wellness initiatives and information about the department’s partnership with UT Dallas’ Emergency Medical Response Team.
