The North Texas Council of Governments’ Air North Texas campaign recently posted several ideas at its Clean Air Corner blog to help North Texans follow eco-friendly/air-friendly practices when preparing for and celebrating Halloween. Ideas include:

  • Carving pumpkins instead of painting them so they can be used later in composting and cooking (recipes included)
  • Reusing household materials to make Halloween decorations (like bats made from cut-up egg cartons, spider webs made from black trash bags and “Mummy Lanterns” made from glass jars)
  • Repurposing pillowcases and old T-shirts as trick-or-treat bags instead of using plastic bags
  • Creating your own costume out of household items (includes costume ideas)
