RICHARDSON – National Trails Day is this weekend, a good opportunity to get to know Richardson’s more than 80 miles of concrete hike and bike trails and soft surface nature trails available throughout the city.
“Richardson has a great system of trails. We have a lot of multi hike and bike trails, some of them that run whole sections of the city. Trails are the number one requested park and recreation amenity across the nation,” said Kurt Beilharz, Superintendent of Park Planning.
Most of the trails border city parks and recreation facilities like Huffhines and Heights Recreation Centers. People visiting Richardson trails can find picnic areas, sports fields and golf course including areas filled with wildflowers, peace, and solitude.
Just last year, construction was completed on a 1.5-mile extension to the Duck Creek Trail System and work at Breckenridge was also done, expanding the trail by 1.2 miles. Richardson had downloadable trail maps in PDF format available online.
