Richardson held its National Night Out event Tuesday night, with hundreds of Richardson residents gathering at 129 registered parties across the city at parks and in neighborhoods. Police officers stopped by each event, and some gatherings saw appearances from Richardson Fire personnel, “Nat the Knight” and other costumed characters, Richardson City Council members, and Miss Texas, Ellie Breaux.
This is the 34th year for Richardson to participate in National Night Out, a program created by the National Association of Town Watch that is designed to promote police-community partnerships, neighborhood camaraderie and help in crime prevention and enhancing quality of life.
The Richardson Police Department also promotes a “Can-Do” food drive each year as part of the event to benefit Network of Community Ministries; this year the department collected more than 5,600 pounds of shelf-stable food.
