The City of Richardson’s plan to relocate the historic Miss Belle’s House has again been delayed due to several days of rain over the past two weeks. The two-story Victorian home, which is one of the oldest buildings in Richardson, was first set to be moved May 10, then delayed to June 14 due to rain. No date has been set for the next attempt to move the house. Once the weather cooperates, it will move three miles from its current location (the City’s Fire Training and Emergency Operation Center,1621 E. Lookout Dr.) to its new home on the east side of Huffhines Park, where the home will serve as a cultural and educational hub for future generations.
The ground at Huffhines Park needs to be completely dry to support the weight of the of the semi-truck that will transport Miss Belle’s House. Wet and muddy conditions could cause the truck to become stuck.
Huffhines Park was chosen for its central proximity to community amenities such as Duck Creek Trail and Huffhines Recreation Center. When the home arrives at Huffhines Park, foundation work will begin, with a possible future phase for interior restoration.
