Custer Park, located near the intersection of Custer Parkway and Renner Road, has a brand-new dual water fountain for people and pets thanks to the efforts of local Girl Scout Troop 2126. The troop raised $5,400 in two months to purchase the water fountain as well as two “mutt mitt” dispensers, as the girls earned Girl Scout Bronze Awards. The troop was recently recognized for their efforts at a Richardson City Council meeting.

The community also benefited from a creative event held earlier this year at the park by the troop as part of their “Dollars for Doggies” fundraising efforts. It featured hand-decorated dog toys and dog art for sale as well as homemade dog treats such as “Wag-a-Longs,” and a “dog kissing booth.” The Bronze Award is the highest award a Junior Girl Scout can earn, while in the 4th or 5th grade.
