The City Council approved Arts Initiative Grants for five area arts organizations Monday totaling $15,000, funded by the hotel/motel tax fund and recommended by the Cultural Arts Commission.

The organizations, chosen from a total of 13 applicants, received the grants to help partially fund special opportunities/projects not included in their normal budget process or regular programming. 

The organizations, funds granted and projects funded are as follows:

  • Dallas Chinese Community Center
    $2,500
    InspirASIAN, a one-day interactive event to be held at UT Dallas
  • Richardson Community Band
    $2,500
    Commissioning an original composition to celebrate the band’s 50th anniversary
  • Richardson Community Chorale
    $1,500
    Sound equipment for community outreach
  • Richardson Symphony Orchestra
    $7,500
    Family concert featuring narration and music
  • Rich-Tone Chorus
    $1,000
    Wireless LCD projector for enhancing vocal training

Arts Initiative Grants are awarded in addition to the yearly cultural arts grants recommended by the Commission, which funded 28 organizations for the 2018-19 fiscal year.
