Richardson Fire Chief Curtis Poovey presented the Fire Department’s annual report at Monday’s City Council work session, a comprehensive summary of the department’s 2022 activities and accomplishments. Notable statistics highlighted in the report included: 

  • 14,755 hours were logged for emergency responses (4,177 fire incidents and 10,578 EMS services). 
  • The department maintained Richardson’s designation as a “Heart Safe Community” 
  • Of the $472 million in property involved in fire incidents, $467.2 million was saved. 
  • Recruiting efforts and incentives are working, with 17 new hires in 2022 for firefighter Class 44 
  • Engine 1 and the CAFS pumper were replaced (Station 1) and Ambulance 33 was replaced (Station 3). Due to supply chain issues, Ambulance 36 has been on order since 2021 and is due to arrive in June, with Station 6 receiving minor renovations to accommodate the new ambulance and its personnel.  

The report also included statistics regarding fire investigations, educational outreach, building inspections, staff health and wellness initiatives, and information about the department’s partnership with UT Dallas’ Emergency Medical Response Team.
