Representatives from FEMA, along with state, county and Richardson emergency management teams, toured tornado damaged areas Tuesday. The tour was part of a federal damage assessment underway that will determine whether local governments will be eligible for financial assistance to reimburse the costs of things like debris removal, new traffic lights and other government infrastructure damaged or destroyed by the tornado.

In Richardson, the tornado damaged or destroyed 30 traffic signals and more than 300 street signs and some park facilities. A portion of the cost for debris removal in impacted neighborhoods could also be eligible for reimbursement.

It is expected to take up to 30 days before local governments will know whether federal funds will be made available to help cover the costs of the storm.
